Contracting An Issue / Tampa and St. Petersburg, Florida

In December 2015 Contracting An Issue (CAI) began our third iteration in the Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL area.  CAI is a series of documentary/street plays framed around the stigma of HIV/AIDS. This project tackles how the weight of this disease has, or has not, affected individuals in your community.  We want to thank our partners and friends at Metro Wellness for supporting our first round of story collection, in the Tampa / St. Petersburg, FL area.

THANK YOU, Metro Wellness!

Tampa/St Petersburg this is your time to have your voice heard…

Do you want people to hear your story? (Click here to reach us by email)

Your involvement with Contracting An Issue is your opportunity to be heard. Gk Callahan will conduct remote anonymous one-on-one interviews. In addition to being interviewed, you will be given the opportunity to be a part of the next chapter in this ongoing documentary series. This means that if you would like to, you can tell your own story, on film. After Gk is finished collecting the personal perspectives of people from the area he will weave together those stories into a spoken-word script. This script will become a verbatim theater performance.

In the summer/fall of 2016, Contracting An Issue will return to Tampa/St. Petersburg with the performance. Using story telling, Contracting An Issue will engage the Tampa and St. Petersburg communities by having local actors present the script live, in public venues. The documentation from Contracting An Issue’s time in the Tampa and St Petersburg area will become a key part of the larger project. Your stories examine a global issue as seen through localized lens, creating a collection of public, spoken-word documentary performances around HIV/AIDS today. Contracting An Issue was conceived with the notion of understanding and recognizing the comparative reality we share concerning fears, prejudices, and health issues relating to HIV/AID

Please tell us YOUR story!

Your experiences will aid in weaving together a true portrait, creating an important and poignant message. You can set up an interview by contacting Gk Callahan via email: info@contractinganissue.com

March 2, 2016

There are many ways to enter the Contracting An Issue (CAI) project: Through our blog, our website, the documentation, or as an audience member. But we can not stress enough, to be interviewed, to tell your story, has the most impact. Without stories from people (like you) in the community there would be no project to enter.

CAI began by listening to the stories of the people. We believe listening is an art and is central to the core of this project.  As makers, or administrators, it is as important to have an exchange with an audience as it is to have an exchange with the people who share their stories. Often we are here just to listen… our secondary mission is to help author those stories to the greater world.

Please, tell your story. Stories, YOUR stories, do truly carry power, and when stories are shared, they foment change.

Community Engagement artist Gk Callahan will be in Tampa and St Petersburg, Florida, working on the third iteration of Contracting An Issue. This is a series of documentary/street plays framed around the stigma of HIV/AIDS. The project is based on layers of stories and the truths they hold for individuals in varying communities around the globe. This project tackles how the weight of this disease has or has not affected individuals in your community.

Stories are everywhere; they inspire us and make us feel, connecting us to each other. Often our very own personal and emotional experiences become the catalyst that can help other people see change, and change themselves

Do you want people to hear your story?

Your involvement with Contracting An Issue is your opportunity.
